We braved the cold and the crowds to go down to DC for President Obama's inauguration.

It was very crowded. People were climbing on whatever they could find to get a better view.

Most people were wearing Obama buttons or maybe a hat. There were also some people with more elaborate items of clothing.

Max was cozily bundled into Dad's coat:

Did I mention that it was crowded?

We were trapped in a solid mass of people for about half an hour. We finally got out of there and were able to watch the inaugural address from a distant jumbotron.

This was pretty much the weirdest thing I saw:

Fun household activity # 374: Build a baby gym out of skewers, duct tape, and cannibalized parts from a Chinese hanging wall calendar thingy:

Add a fleece blanket and some Baby Einstein blocks and Max is in baby paradise:

Block party, anyone?

On an unrelated note, a bird built a nest outside our living room window. Max and I watched as she flew back and forth, fetching sticks and putting them in place. (Well, to be perfectly honest, I watched while Max alternated between eating, sleeping, and staring resolutely in the opposite direction).

Sleepy Max at the end of a long day:
